Dubbed the man with the "Ken doll chest" by USA Today, Firefighter/Paramedic Denny Peffer, our over fifty competitor, has
trained for years to achieve his physical fitness and physique.       Peffer's philosophy is that you limit yourself with your thoughts. You limit yourself if you don't think you are going to be as fast because you are older, etc.

Training and staying in shape is a hobby and lifestyle for Peffer. When Peffer is working out or running up Pikes Peak, he admits he doesn't even think of his age. He just tries to do better and better, even to the point of believing he will someday beat his best times. When doing the combat challenge at Nationals, Peffer will not limit himself by only competing with his age group, in his mind, he will be competing with every category.

Firefighter/Paramedic Denny Peffer, fondly nicknamed the Ironman by members of the CSFD, is one of the most amazing athletes we've ever met. Athletic in high school, Peffer competed in wrestling and baseball, with baseball being his favorite sport. Peffer began his running career at 25 years old after reading a book on marathons. He's run the Leadville 100 mile marathon and the 26-mile, Pikes Peak marathon many times. Peffer started running to increase his aerobic condition but being naturally competive he challenged himself by running a marathon.

Name: Stacy Billapando
Department: Colorado Springs, CO
Age: 40
Position: firefighter/paramedic
Sport: Firefighter Combat Challenge
Hobbie: Combat Challenge

Stacy has been 3rd in the world in the Firefighter Combat Challenge for three years.

Balanced Diet, Fruit and Vegetables, Chocolate once a week. Water one gallon at least per day.

Maintenance workout program: Sprint once a week, weightlifting free weight three times a week. Technique training again in March.

Stacy was raised in a competitive household with her father, who went to college on a track scholarship and was also competitive in martial arts. Both Stacy’s brother and sister were swimmers and although her mother learned how to swim in her late 30's, she went on to be an instructor for adults, children and beginner swimmers.

Weightlifting started when she figured out that she was never going to be a size 10, never going to be weighing less then 160lb and remain healthy. Billapando realized she was stronger than most other women and that she could become even stronger. She competes because she wants to see if she can do the challenge. “Now don't get me wrong, I am NOT going to do the Eco Challenge (I can't see making that my lifestyle without loosing my family!) but I will compete next year in the indoor rowing competition again and I will probably try another mini triathlon. Ribbons and metals again!” she says.
