I'm a friend of Brent Hannam's you have him listed on
your site under New Zealand. I too are involved with the stair climbs,
I have done our Auckland Sky Tower twice (47 floors) and the Seattle Firefighter
challenge (69 floors) and just got back from Melbourne Australia after
climbing their Rialto tower (56 floors).
My best effort was Seattle which I did in 20:02 still to slow for my liking,
but learnt a lot from climbing it. I did the last climb in 19:00 which
was only 56 floors, it did have a 50-60m run to start it.
Before Seattle I ran a bit and climbed heaps, I have access to a 26 story
building in the city in which I carried my 2 year old son up on my back,
I lost 14 kilos 30 pounds training for Seattle. I have maintained my weight
but don't seen to be improving my power and speed.
I increased my running after Seattle and dropped the amount of climbs
I was doing, my 5 km times are coming down, I some times do a circuit
in the Station Gym of 5 minutes stairs with 12 kilos hand weights, up
and down, then 5 min bike ride, then 5 min row staying under the 2:00
level on the concept two rower then run for 5 minutes at about 13 speed
on the Treadmill, then repeat the circuit. I might just run 10 km some
days or climb the back stairs at work up the two floors 60 times, sometimes
in BA other times just in running gear.
I do weights, like squats and other weight exercises. What would you recommend
to get my speed and power up?
Running for longer times like one to one and a half hours, and climbing
in town more, sat with and without weights on?
If you can receive attachment I have photo's I can send. I'm wanting to
do a climb in LA this October and another in Chicago in November, the
Sear Tower 103 floors! I want to be as fit as for that!
I return to Chicago in Feb 2005 then on to Seattle for their climb before
return home and to Australia for the last two climbs. I really enjoy the
challenge, and it's keeping me fit!

Acheivements so far, won the B.A Competition at the UFBA Nationals in
2001, competed in the Sky Tower challenge last two years, came 2nd last
year.
Fitness goals right now, lose a few kg's, long temr goals, compete in
the Sky Tower Challenge next year (and win!), also to compete in the Bank
of America Stair climb event, 2005.
All my training is trade related, there's nothing else I train for.
As for diet etc, well that depends on the training I am doing at the time,
my training is periodized so diet varies from Hypertrophy to Endurance
phase's.
In regards to supplements (All supplements are Horleys), I take the following;
Creatine
L-Glutamine
L-Carnitine
Various Protein Powders (High protein/low carb, or 50/50, depends on training
phase).
Replacement drinks
That's about it,
